The most popular teamsport in Germany: Soccer

Choosing a soccer ball for the popular team sport is often not easy. Use in training in a club, soccer in school sports, professional game play or soccer fun at home - the purposes and consequently the selection of soccer balls for the right shot into the goal and the selection of soccer balls from different manufacturers or brands, e.g. Erima, or Adidas, is huge. If your ball is getting old and you are looking for a new ball to use for your soccer ball pleasure after years, you should consider the following aspects when buying a soccer ball:

  • Material and texture of the ball
  • Purpose of soccer ball
  • Ball size of soccer ball
  • Weight
  • Certification

With us you will find a comprehensive assortment of different soccer balls with great flight and playing characteristics. Here you will find a suitable soccer ball for every purpose. However, we do not offer soccer jerseys!

Soccer balls for different purposes: Are there special soccer balls for very hard surfaces?

A soccer ball can be used for different places and purposes. Depending on where the soccer ball is used, there are different procurement properties of the ball. For soccer ball tournaments you need an official game ball, for training or school sports a particularly robust training ball is particularly suitable. The characteristics of the venue also require different ball characteristics. For example, you play on hard courts, artificial turf or asphalt with soccer balls that have a reduced bounce and high abrasion resistance. Futsal soccer balls and indoor soccer balls, on the other hand, are reduced in jumping, which ensures high ball control.

Training vs. Competition: What are the differences?

The questions in which soccer balls for training and soccer balls for competition differ often arise. Training balls have the Replique name suffix, whereas match soccer balls are marked with the suffix "OMB" (Official Match Ball). In contrast to match soccer balls, training soccer balls have a simpler structure, have a more robust surface and usually have a lower price. This means that they are adapted to the higher demands of everyday life and are therefore more durable and more durable. Match soccer balls have optimal flight behaviour and very good playing properties. Training balls, on the other hand, have very good jumping properties so that soccer players can easily practice playing techniques and reflexes during training. The training soccer ball and the match soccer ball must meet certain properties in terms of weight and size. A tested training ball must have size 5, a circumference of 68-70 cm and a weight of 410-450 g. An official game ball is certified by FIFA, which means that these balls have a uniform standard.

In school sports and in free time there are of course no specified requirements. Nevertheless, especially in school sports, you should make sure that the ball size is adapted to the age of the players. Because especially with children and in the youth the balls should fit and support the children and adolescents optimally. You can also use lighter and smaller balls in school sports but also in your free time.

What soccer ball sizes and weights are there?

The German Soccer ball Association makes the following recommendations:

  • G-Juniors: size 3 (290 g) and a circumference of 19.10 cm
  • F-Juniors: size 3 or 4 (290 g) and a circumference of 19.10 cm / 21.01 cm
  • E-Juniors: size 4 (290 g / 350 g) and a circumference of 21.01 cm
  • D-Juniors: size 4 or 5 (350 g) and a circumference of 21.01 cm / 22.28 cm
  • A, B, C juniors: size 5 (420 g) and a circumference of 68-70 cm
  • Women / men: size 5 (420 g) and a circumference of 68-70 cm

One can clearly see that the recommendations are linked to age. Nevertheless, you can of course also use soccer balls in training to learn different techniques that differ in their properties from these recommendations. For example, you can use light game balls in training.

What material are soccer balls made of?

Soccer balls can be made of leather (synthetic leather) or plastic. Compared to leather balls, plastic balls are characterized by increased durability and prevent the absorption of water. In addition, a surface of balls made of leather (synthetic leather) is not quite as abrasion-resistant as plastic balls, and the individual layers separate more quickly. The surface of a soccer ball can also be hand-sewn or glued. A hand-sewn soccer ball corresponds to a classic soccer ball and has a natural flight behaviour. With a hand-sewn ball, however, water absorption is more common. The advantage of glued soccer balls is that they absorb water less quickly and accelerate faster. However, in an uninflated state, they get damage faster.

Which air pressure is ideal for soccer balls?

How much air pressure a ball needs is usually stated in the bar next to the valve. In most cases, an air pressure of 0.6-0.8 bar is ideal for a soccer ball, which can be easily reached using a ball pump via the valve. With the right air pressure, the spherical shape of a soccer ball is created. This spherical shape, which usually gives the ball an ideal trajectory, is formed by the collision of two hexagons and a pentagon. A soccer ball consists of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons, which together form the closed, spherical structure of a soccer ball. You should always check the ball for loss of air pressure.

Lightweight soccer balls: The 3rd kind of ball next to a matchball and Replique ball

Lightballs (also called light balls) are special, weight-reduced soccer balls for children and adolescents. A light ball is to ensure a methodical introduction to soccer balls and their powers. Especially the (first) training sessions in the headball game can take place more pain-reducing and more effectively due to the light soccer balls. A light game soccer ball weighs only 290-350 compared to a match soccer ball and Replique ball and is therefore also easier to play.
