During a hurdle race you don't only need speed and the ability to respond quick, but also the power to leap and a sense of rhythm. So a good hurdle technique requires a lot of practice. Whether for your training, school sports or competition you can buy your hurdles at Kübler Sport to create the optimal training and competition conditions.
Hurdles: sprint with obstacles
The hurdle race is one of the coordinating and technically demanding disciplines of athletics. Here, ten hurdles must be overrun as quickly as possible on a distance of 100m or 110m in the men or over 400m. In the younger youth classes 80m hurdles are run, in competitions in the hall only five hurdles are tackled on a distance of 60m. Depending on the age group (youth classes or active) and gender vary the height and distance of the hurdles, the hurdles on the men's 110m track, for example, 1.067m high, the hurdle height in women over 100m is 0.838m. The hurdles may fall over during the overflow, but if they are deliberately knocked over, the runner will face a disqualification. Between the hurdles, the athletes should come in as even rhythm as possible in order to be able to absorb speed. In general, the hurdles on the short distances to 110m are overrun in a three-way rhythm, i. The athlete makes exactly three steps between the hurdles (not counting after the hurdle). In this rhythm, overflow is the fluidest and fastest. About the 400m hurdles are 13, 15 or 17 steps usual. The odd number of steps allows the athlete to always push himself off the ground with the same and mostly stronger leg before the hurdle.
Buy the right hurdles for every need
Kübler Sport offers a wide range of robust and durable competition and training hurdles. Competition hurdles, unlike training or practice hurdles, must have additional counterweights in the feet. The weights are used to stabilize the obstacle when overflowing and are pushed depending on the hurdle height in the base differently close to the hurdle lath. Our various competition hurdles are quick and easy height adjustable, as well as IAAF certified and thus approved for any kind of competition.
The right hurdles for training
In order to learn the technique and movement of hurdles, various coordinative skills such as rhythm skills need to be learned and trained to overcome the hurdles as efficiently and quickly as possible. For training with children and beginners who are often afraid of hurting themselves when overcoming the hurdles, so-called Zachariah hurdles are best suited. These hurdles consist of two metal upholstered with foam rollers, which are infinitely adjustable via a joint and can be folded to save space. Polanik's height-adjustable pendulum hurdle is perfect for school sports as well as athletics training and can also be used as a mini hurdle. The hurdle can be overrun from both directions and, thanks to a moving foot, automatically raises itself after a touch so that the painstaking re-establishment of the hurdle is eliminated. In our shop you will also find classic adjustable training hurdles without counterweights for training and school sports. Due to the missing weights, the hurdles are easier to carry.
Storage and transport of hurdles
For a space-saving storage and easy transport, a hurdle cart is recommended. Depending on the model, this can accommodate between 20 and 40 hurdles, which can be charged conveniently and easily. Also replacement wooden hurdles are available in our shop.
Hurdles can not only be used for the hurdles, but also for the training of coordination and bounce both in athletics and in other sports such as football, they are very helpful. Small hurdles for coordination training can also be found in our online shop.
