What should I choose: a wooden baseball bat or an aluminum baseball bat?
The German Baseball Federation (DBV) recommends the use of wooden bats only in the Bundesliga. In school sports or as a hobby, aluminum bats can be used normally. Wooden bats, in general, vibrate upon impact, which is considered a disadvantage. They are also heavier than aluminum bats, making it harder to hit the ball. They are made from ash, walnut, or beech wood. In softball, however, wooden bats are not allowed, only aluminum softball bats are permitted.
Aluminum baseball bats vibrate less upon impact and are lighter than wooden bats, making it easier to hit the ball. Because pure aluminum is too soft and would lead to deformation, aluminum bats are made from a material mixture or alloy.
