Stone put
Stone throwing is part of the grass strength sport and requires primarily explosive power. The throwing stone is typically made of cast iron and has the shape of a rectangular prism. After a run-up, the athlete pushes the stone as far forward as possible with one arm in front of a push-off bar. Throwing stones have a weight range between 3 kg and 15 kg. Men throw a stone weighing 15 kg, while women throw a weight of 7.5 kg. Youth and seniors throw stones with correspondingly lighter weights. Stone throwing can be chosen as a discipline in the strength category for the German Sports Badge.
