Spikes
Spikes provide a secure grip for the starting blocks on synthetic tracks. Starting blocks, also called starting rails, are used for sprints in athletics. In competition, starting blocks are mandatory for all participants up to and including the 400 m distance. The runner can achieve a higher speed during the acceleration phase by using the starting block.
