Molten® Handball HXF1800 Resin Free

In more and more sports halls, the use of resin is prohibited or restricted. To find a solution for handball, the current ball regulations of the IHF apply. Recently, a distinction is made between handballs played with resin and handballs played without resin. The handballs played without resin may be smaller. The newly developed F-Series has the reduced size and weight according to IHF regulations for resin-free handballs. The machine-stitched panels are particularly robust, and the soft PU surface material gives the handball excellent playing characteristics and a good grip.

What distinguishes resin-free balls from handballs that can be played with resin?

The IHF has revised the ball regulations regarding the size of balls with and without resin. Balls without resin are significantly smaller and slightly lighter in all sizes. This makes the ball easier to throw and catch, even without using resin. Additionally, the surface of resin-free balls offers special properties designed to simplify gripping. For example, the surface can be water-absorbent or feature stronger, grippier contour grooves. Some balls can also be played with lower air pressure, allowing the fingertips to sink in deeper without negatively affecting the bounce behaviour. However, the special surface structure also means that using resin would significantly damage the ball.

Are resin-free balls meant to completely replace resin?

No. The aim is rather to provide an alternative when resin use is prohibited in a particular region or sports hall. More and more sports halls are banning the use of handball resin due to heavy contamination. Furthermore, some regional associations have already agreed to completely forego the use of resin. This means that in certain amateur leagues, only resin-free handball is played, even if some sports halls would still permit resin.
