German Swimming Badge, 2020

The current swimming badges are suitable for all swimming clubs, schools, pools, and authorized individuals. The badges can be easily sewn on or ironed on.

Since January 1, 2020, there is no longer a distinction between youth swimming badges and swimming badges. Regardless of age, the Bronze, Silver, and Gold swimming badges are proof of proficient swimming.

Ironing on: Simply place the badge on the desired spot and cover it completely with a thin cotton cloth, such as a kitchen towel. Iron evenly for about 10 seconds at 160-180 degrees Celsius (without steam).

Requirements for the different badges

Requirements for Bronze:
- Once approximately 2m deep diving from the water surface with retrieving an object (e.g. small diving ring)
- A forward jump from the starting block or 1m diving board
- Headfirst jump from the pool edge and 15 minutes of swimming. During this time, a minimum of 200m must be covered, of which 150m in prone or supine position in a recognizable swimming style and 50m in the other body position (changing body position while swimming in the swimming lane without holding on)
- The theoretical examination includes knowledge of swimming rules

Requirements for Silver:
- Headfirst jump from the pool edge and 20 minutes of swimming. During this time, a minimum of 400m must be covered, of which 300m in prone or supine position in a recognizable swimming style and 100m in the other body position (changing body position while swimming in the swimming lane without holding on)
- 10m underwater swimming starting from the pool edge
- Twice approximately 2m deep diving from the water surface with retrieving one object each (e.g. small diving ring)
- Jump from a 3m height or two different jumps from a 1m height
- The theoretical examination covers knowledge of swimming rules and self-rescue behavior (e.g. behavior during exhaustion, relieving cramps)

Requirements for Gold:
- Headfirst jump from the pool edge and 30 minutes of swimming. During this time, a minimum of 800m must be covered, of which 650m in prone or supine position in a recognizable swimming style and 150m in the other body position (changing body position while swimming in the swimming lane without holding on)
- Starting dive and 25m crawl swimming
- 50m backstroke with somersault turn without using the arms or back crawl swimming
- 10m underwater swimming starting from swimming position (without pushing off from the pool edge)
- Three times approximately 2m deep diving from the water surface with retrieving one object each (e.g. small diving ring) within 3 minutes
- Jump from a 3m height or 2 different jumps from a 1m height
- 50m endurance swimming: pushing or pulling
- Starting dive and 50m breaststroke swimming in a maximum of 1:15 minutes
- The theoretical examination includes knowledge of swimming rules as well as help in case of swimming, boating, and ice accidents (self-rescue, simple rescue of others)
