Erima® Handball MAGIC WHITE Training

The Erima® MAGIC WHITE Training is the ideal choice for handball training in resin-free sports halls. Specifically designed for beginners and regular training sessions, the ball impresses with excellent grip without the need for resin. The grippy 0.9mm PU outer material combined with the Dual Shock System ensures a pleasantly soft ball feeling and secure ball control. Thanks to the latex bladder, the handball provides optimal bounce - even with lower air pressure. The reduced size and weight comply with the requirements for resin-free balls and enable particularly good handling. Perfectly suitable for schools that use halls with resin bans.

What distinguishes resin-free balls from handballs that can be played with resin?

The IHF has recently revised the ball regulations regarding the size of balls with and without resin. Resin-free balls are significantly smaller and somewhat lighter in all sizes. This allows the ball to be thrown and caught more easily, even without using resin. Additionally, the surface of resin-free balls offers special features designed to simplify gripping. For example, the surface may be water-absorbent or have stronger, grippier contour grooves. Some balls can also be played with lower air pressure, allowing the fingertips to sink in deeper without negatively affecting the bounce behaviour. However, the special surface texture also means that using resin on these balls would significantly damage them.

Are resin-free balls meant to completely replace resin?

No. The aim is rather to provide an alternative when resin use is not allowed in the respective region or sports hall. Increasingly, sports halls prohibit the use of handball resin due to severe contamination. Additionally, some regional associations have already agreed to completely forgo the use of resin. This means that in some amateur leagues, only resin-free handball is played, even if the sports halls would partially allow resin.

Who decides whether playing handball with resin is permitted or not?

The IHF initially only stipulates that both types of handballs are permitted in competition as long as their size and weight meet the prescribed standards. The final decision on resin use therefore does not lie with the IHF but rather with the venue operators. Even if the IHF allows resin use, a sports hall can ban resin due to cleaning and maintenance requirements. Thus, conditions and regulations vary from place to place. Some regional associations are already excluding resin use entirely to standardise conditions across leagues.

What are the advantages of a latex bladder in a ball?

Latex is frequently and favourably used because the material is lighter than butyl, which makes the ball feel more comfortable. Latex is also very elastic, making it lively and flexible, providing top quality for the playing experience. However, don't be surprised if the air loss is somewhat higher due to the elasticity, so the ball should be regularly re-inflated.
